Planning Ahead for Independence

Bob is an Air Force and Air National Guard veteran living in Carlisle. Today, he gets around with a walker, but as Parkinson’s continues to affect his mobility, Bob knows a wheelchair may be part of his future.

And he had the foresight to plan for it.

The walkway leading to Bob’s home had become difficult to navigate and would have been nearly impossible with a wheelchair. Operation Restore Hope stepped in to make sure his home would be ready when he needs it.

The project was a complete makeover of the front area. The old walkway and pavers were removed, four inches of crushed stone were added for a solid base, and a new concrete walkway was poured. Once the work was finished, the area was cleaned up and completed with fresh mulch, landscaping and a decorative bench.

The photos tell the story—from where we started to the finished project.  We also continue to be grateful for our partnership with Foulds Construction. Their support and willingness to step up when our veterans need help makes projects like Bob’s possible and helps Operation Restore Hope carry out our mission in our community.

For Bob, this is about more than a new sidewalk. It’s about being able to safely get in and out of his home, today and in the years ahead.

And that’s what Operation Restore Hope is all about: helping our veterans remain safe and independent in their own homes, with pride and dignity.
